Diversification
This is a particularly embarrassing story, but I'm going to tell it in order to legitimize my claim that confronting your shortcomings is a necessary step in personal development.
I was flipping through the channels this evening and the Oxygen network (you know, "television for women") was playing "The Best Man," starring Taye Diggs and Sanaa Lathan. In case you haven't seen it, just know that it has an all African-American cast.
Nuha is coloring a picture of Dora and looks up just as Taye Diggs is giving the toast at his best friend's wedding. "Look, Mama," she says proudly, "it's Barack Obama."
(Long awkward silence.)
I told you it was embarassing.

LOL... hey at least shes politically aware! Pretty amazin for an almost 3 year old!! Maasha Allaah! Give her a huge hug n tons of kisses from Ibraheem n moi. We miss u all!!
thats not embrassing! I agree! thats pretty darn amazing for a kid her ageto be so aware.I know I'm already so proud of her!- but I have to say I think my favorite part about that story was you mentioning Taye Diggs...It made me reflect a little...(reflect on how hotttt taye diggs is...) Favorite post yet keep up the good work!
LOL kids say the cutest things. At least you know she'll be ready to vote when the time comes. It's amazing how she made the connection. You got a smart one there (mashallah sey and being a cutie doesn't hurt either)
Well, on the plus side, it's much better to confuse all blacks as Barack Obama than Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton!
We need to put her in diversity training :(. On the plus side, Barack Obama should be happy that somebody confused him with Taye Diggs. Oh and Komal, please don't call anybody "hotttt" in front of me...it's weird as you are still the same komal to me who I took to the children's section of Barnes and Noble just 'yesterday'. :)
shabyna- yeah, she is amazing. kisses back to you
komal - yeah, he is hotttt. or is it hotttt (with five t's)? incidentally, i think your comment is going to give tariq nightmares tonight.
ayesha - of course, she's smart, she spends her day outwitting me. a great mental exercise in and of itself.yours is a cutie, too, i will never forget his version of the word "truck" when he was nuha's age.
avitable - well said. i feel *much* better now.
tariq- i personally blame you for not having more African American friends over to the house. then again, i think we were watching Godfather III the other day and said, "mama why is daddy blowing that guys head off?" and don't you *dare* take that as a compliment.
there is no way nuha said that lol! (Godfather thing). And oh god...lol sorry tariq bhi. Sometimes I forget how funny and at the same time awesome it is to see you guys as offical parental units.:)
-wait-...why was nuha watching GOD FATHER 3 with you guys?
ALIVE!!! LOL :-D
Faiqa, am I permitted to post about politics? I mean, you are talking about BHO, here aren't you? Unless, of course, you want to pull that stunt you did last time and take down my posts for being too political (read: too conservative). Oh by the way, how DID you know that we conservatives all think Barack is a Muslim? Ok, just admit it Faiqa: you can read minds. :-D lol
Anyway, Barack announced his energy plan for Americans: check your tire pressure regularly. TaDaaa! Energy Crisis Averted!
*long long silence* Jeez and you libs think W is dumb. lol Charles Krauthammer called Barack's idea a "towering absurdity." And me? I nearly fell off the turnip truck laughin'. :-D
Sorry, I got a momentary thrill up my leg like Chris Mathews. lol
:-D I wonder if Chris has told his wife that he's gay? hmmm :-\ lol.
Anyway, it's such a thrill to be back here to annoy you, I mean, to bring some "diversity" to the discussion. *snicker* :-D
*wink wink* ;-)
YeW GnO i WuB YeW. *toothsome grin*
karmi :-D
karmi- you *do* know that blogger will give you a blog free of charge, right? i know you conservatives can be cheap. i just thought i'd let you know in case you thought that the only the way to offer your opinions to the world was through MY blog. :)
OMG, that's hilarious. when i was her age, i thought "watergate" was a controversy about a dam. seriously.
Faiqa, you don't seem to understand: I'm old as dirt! I hardly know what a blog is. And I simply would not be able to keep up with all the confusion. Anyway, I am perfectly willing to post on matters other than politics. What else would you like for me to weigh in on? *big st*pid grin*.
:-) karmi
Man, that was just racist! Don't go all wilder effect on me now.
buzz buzz, zia.
